There’s been a bit of news lately about President Bush directing the NSA to listen in on phone calls from US citizens to numbers outside of the US without judicial review.
By the way, if you are wondering whether YOUR phone could be easily tapped, just check to see if your phone company offers three-way dialing, because that’s the feature we’re talking about. If you can get it, they can get you.
That observation about how easy it is to tap into your phone comes from Robert Cringley. In The Falafel Connection he explores some of the technical issues of tapping all our phones and plausible methods the NSA could (probably does?) use to limit the tappings to parties of interest. Bonus! How at least one organization got free phone service because of a tap.
