Environmental Ooops

Been gung-ho on doing your bit to reduce energy consumption by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs? You know, the little tubes that use less than half the power of regular, incandescent bulbs. There is an environmental problem with those bulbs. They contain mercury.

Ooops

A woman broke a bulb and called for advice about the cleanup. She’s now looking at a $2,000 cleanup bill. Albany (New York) is encouraging people to store burned out bulbs until a safe disposal method is found.

This is a major problem. Save electricity and take a risk of mercury exposure if the bulb breaks or have the certainty of a environmentally friendly disposal problem.
