Jeff Potter with Out Your Backdoor was the first exposure I had to assertive DIY Culture. For those of us who don’t feel well served by mass media mediated culture DIY is the only way to go. Jeff’s enthusiastic exhortations to get out and do are a continual inspiration.
’cause of that I was really happy to see a call for entries for the 2008 RPM Challenge:
record an album in 29 days, just because you can. That’s 10 songs or 35 minutes of original material recorded during the month of February. Go ahead… put it to tape. Don’t wait for inspiration – taking action puts you in a position to get inspired. You’ll stumble across ideas you would have never come up with otherwise, and maybe only because you were trying to meet a day’s quota of (song)writing. Show up and get something done, and invest in yourself and each other. Anyone can come up with an excuse to say “no,” so don’t.
Is that cool or what?
In 2007 over 850 artists participated. You can hear the results on the RPM Jukebox.

Well, I didn’t do it in 29 days (more like 3 mos.) but I did it:

Very instructive and fun experience.
